UNIVERSITY SPORTSKho Kho: From the World Cup to campus
The Indian sport of Kho Kho demands speed and strategy – and recently became part of the University Sports program at Johannes Gutenberg University Mainz. Sports science students Levin Weckenmann and Niklas Gebhardt, who competed for the German national team at the first Kho Kho World Cup in New Delhi in 2025, brought this sport to the Gutenberg campus.

Roughly 50 German athletes are training in the use of the Japanese pole sword, the naginata. Some of them meet regularly in the gymnasiums of the University Sports Center at Johannes Gutenberg University Mainz (JGU). Several times a week they don their armor and test their skill in combat.
